How to Fix My Gallery Pictures Disappear

Method 1: Restart Your Android Phone

First things first, try rebooting your Android phone to eliminate any minor glitch or bug in its system. It is the quickest way to refresh your device's operating system and might help you find my photos on my phone.

All you need to do is press and hold the power key until the power glider appears on the screen. Then, tap Restart and wait until your phone is restarted.

Hopefully, you will get back the disappeared photos. If not, jump to the next solution.

Method 2: Clear Cache

The next solution is clearing the cache files of the gallery app. Each smartphone stores temporary data of each application including gallery to speed up the processes.

With time, it can get overflowed with files like icons, templates, and other unwanted thumbnail icons – and that might be the reason why my gallery pictures disappear. In this case, the simplest option is to turn off the gallery app and delete it cache files.

Here's how to do that:

1. Step 1: Head to Settings and tap on the Apps option.
2. Step 2: From the available list of apps, find and tap Gallery.
3. Step 3: Next, go to Storage and tap Force stop to shut it down first.
4. Step 4: Wait for a few seconds and then, tap Clear cache button.

   

Finally, restart your device and check if you can see the disappeared photos in the gallery.

Method 3: Delete the .nomedia File

Deleting the NOMEDIA files on your phone is another tested and tried solution to get back the photos disappeared from Android gallery. These are empty files that hide the media files to prevent them from being loaded by apps like Gallery.

Thus, it may occur that your missing photos from gallery are disappeared in the DCIM or Camera folder because of NOMEDIA files – rather than being deleted from the phone.

To confirm this, simply locate and delete the NOMEDIA files on your device. Follow the below instructions to do that:

1. Step 1: Go to My Files (or File Manager) on your phone and tap the three-dots icon at the top.
2. Step 2: Here, enable the Show hidden system files. Return back to the main page.

   

3. Step 3: Now, tap Images, type nomedia into the search bar, and hit Search.
4. Step 4: When the results are displayed, select the photo(s) with .nomedia file extension, and hit the Delete button.

   

5. Step 5: Finally, go to Gallery and hopefully, you'll see the missing pictures

Method 4: Remove SD card

If you have stored the photos in the SD card on your phone, then the issue can be with the SD card itself. Simply take out the card and put it back in after a few seconds. This will refresh the SD card and your photos disappeared from Android phone might appear in the gallery.

Method 1: Google Photos

In most smartphones, Google automatically syncs your media on cloud if you are logged in with your Google account. Even if you don't remember enabling the Google backup option, it's always a good option to check Google Photos. It's very likely that you will find the missing photos.

Here's how to use Google Photos if my gallery pictures disappear on Android:

1. Step 1: Launch the Google Photos app on your phone.
2. Step 2: Tap the menu icon and go to Trash. It will show all the photos that were deleted in the last 60 days
3. Step 3: Select the disappeared photos and hit Restore.

   

The photos will be downloaded to your phone's gallery.

Method 2: Gallery Trash/Bin

Many smartphones have a built-in recycle bin folder that temporarily stores the deleted media on your device. So, if you're looking to find my photos on my phone, Recycle Bin is the folder you should go to.

If you find the disappeared photos here, recovering them is just a walk in the park. Below are the steps to do that:

1. Step 1: Open Gallery and tap the menu option at the top.
2. Step 2: Next, tap Trash/Recently Deleted to see the deleted photos.

   

3. Step 3: Select the photos you want to retrieve and hit Restore.

Method 3: Samsung Cloud

If you're a Samsung user, then try retrieving the missing pictures from Samsung cloud. Even if you don't remember enabling Samsung cloud on your device, it's still worth a try. All it takes is a few clicks to check if the disappeared photos are located in the backup.

For that:

1. Step 1: Go to Settings and tap Accounts and backup > Backup and restore.
2. Step 2: Here, tap Restore data, select the photos option, and hit Restore at the bottom.

   

3. Step 3: It will take some time to restore all the backed up photos to the gallery.

1. Turn off image grouping

Click on the grouping icon next to search and disable grouping.

2. Make sure the album is not hidden

To do that, simply tap Albums > More options (the three vertical dots), and hit Select albums to show. You'll see a list of albums excluding the albums without a check mark. Next, tap the album to add or remove a check.

3. Check the file system for a special file that hides folders

1. Step 1: Open My Files and tap More options > Settings.
2. Step 2: Tap the toggle in front of Show hidden system files to see the hidden files.

   

Also, go to the folder containing pictures and delete the .nomedia file.

4. Check the Trash in My Files and Gallery

Go to the Trash folder and check if the missing images are available in this folder or not. If yes, then select the files and hit Restore to get them back.

Next, you can check the Trash in both My Files and the Gallery app.

5. Check your albums for downloaded images

Often, the downloaded images are stored in a specific folder and might not be shown in gallery. To view them, tap Albums and open the Downloads folder to view your images.

6. Copy the image files to a supported folder

It may happen that the folder containing the images have certain restrictions. You should use My Files to copy these files to the Pictures folder to be able to view them.
